Husky Experience and Dog Sled Driving

Updated Tour Information: Join the early-season Husky Experience on wheeled wagons.

Published: 15.11.2024

Our dogs are eager to run, so while we wait for the snow and colder temperatures, we're using wheeled wagons instead of sleds for our husky tours.
As you will be driving the wagons and leading the husky team yourself; Be advised that this is a physically demanding activity, comparable to riding a bicycle, so a moderately decent physical shape and ability to balance is required.

Later this year, once the snow settles permanently, we'll begin using sleds again.

This tour departs from the city center of Tromsø from where you will head out on a scenic 50-minute bus transfer to our camp in Breivikeidet.

Upon arrival at our camp, situated in a picturesque valley close to the sea, you will be welcomed by our friendly staff, and we will provide you with thermal suits, winter boots, hats, and mittens before heading out on the dog sledding adventure. Before meeting your team of huskies, your guide will go through the safety instructions and show you the basics of steering the sled/wagon.

Note that this tour offers a short husky ride: you will get the chance to drive your dog sled/wagon in a slow and comfortable pace for about 10-15 minutes depending on the conditions. Halfway through the tour your guide will make a stop to take photos of you being a dog musher before you switch places with your passenger on the sled/wagon. Once done with taking the photos, you will start your return to camp for another 10-15 minutes.

After your dog sledding ride, you’ll get the chance to strengthen your bond with the huskies: you can give and receive all the cuddles you can handle.

After your visit to the dog yard, you are invited to the warm comforts of our panorama restaurant where you can learn a lot more about the dogs from our knowledgeable guides over some hot drinks and cake.

When you change back to your normal clothes and wave one last goodbye to the huskies, you’ll be driven back to the city by bus with an experience of a lifetime behind you and spectacular photos to show for it!
